Taxing Issue
The Proposed Property Tax Increase
Reasonable or Not?

It's natural to resent tax increases.

Most of us track our own money but are confused about the city budget process because it happens without us. All we get is the final number.

Some of your questions thus far:

How do we know if a tax increase is justified?

Tax Chat ONE is the beginning of a conversation about taxes. And we're hoping you'll join us.

The Guelph Civic League is hosting a tax conversation with city staff, councillors and residents.

Date: Wednesday, July 23rd
Time: 7 p.m.
Place: Harpo's Banquet Hall, 89 Dawson Road

Who's Coming?

Grant Robinson - Chartered accountant and Community Editorial Board columnist will act as moderator.

Councillor Karl Wettstein - Chair the city's Finance, Administration and Corporate Services (FACS) Committee, will give us an overview of the city's budget and our taxes.

Lloyd Longfield - CEO of Guelph's Chamber of Commerce, will share insights from a business and industry perspective.

Beth Pinnington - a local expert on Participatory Budgeting, will share both local and international examples of citizens actively involved in budget decisions.

To be confirmed - we've invited the Guelph Tax Revolt, a group of taxpayers concerned about the proposed 6.5% tax increase to join the conversation.

and

Margaret Neubauer - The city's Director of Finance, will listen to ideas and concerns directly from members of the audience.

Get Smart

Please join friends and neighbours who also want to know more about where their taxes go, how the budgeting process can be improved and what part the community can play.

Two things are inevitable in life.
Death is one of them.

Come to Harpo's Banquet Hall on the evening of July 23rd to hear about -- and talk about -- the other sure thing.

You can be sure of one thing: the room will be filled.

Please RSVP if you can join us.
