At the Guelph Civic League, we frequently hear from people who aren’t sure how to vote in the November 13th election, mainly because they haven’t had the time to keep up with how city council votes. But we have. After gathering all council votes over the past three years, we have distilled them to an easy-to-understand record of votes that relate most to the Guelph Civic League values and those of our members. Read it. Forward it. VOTE knowledgeably.

The Voting Truth - The voting record has been formatted as to three easy-to-understand elements:
1. A chart that shows council members and how they voted on 24 key issues, and how their votes fit with the 10 GCL values.
2. A screen for each council member that shows how they voted.
3. A screen for each issue that shows how the council members voted.
Why is This Important?
Much election propaganda is in circulation right now from candidates. Read only that, and you would think that the incumbents did a great job this term. But the reality is quite the opposite. Our city is sprawling out of control. Visionary planning is nowhere in evidence. Massive commercial developments have been approved on all flanks. Taxes have increased dramatically for three years yet services have declined. And whatever environmental issue you look at — waste, water, pollution, traffic — the council voting majority has stepped decidedly backward, as if neither our environment nor our health matter in decision making.
We encourage you to read the voting record, then send the link on to friends, family, and colleagues. While the Guelph Civic League remains non-partisan in this election, we are extremely disappointed in the performance of the majority of sitting councillors. Their record needs to be shown to everyone who intends to vote. Should they be re-elected with another majority for the four years of the coming term, we believe Guelph will be effectively “sold out” to big developers. It has never been more important to vote for those responsible for determining our city’s future.
